The tax on stock market transactions, known as « taxe sur les opérations de bourse » (TOB) has been in existence in Belgium for dozens of years. It is applicable on buy and sell operations of quoted assets such as ETFs.

Since January 1st 2017, in the wake of the financial information exchange (CRS) between OECD countries, and with the objective of equal treatment and widened tax collection, this tax no longer applies only to trades executed by a Belgian financial institution for a resident of Belgium, but also trades originating abroad.

As a result, the transactions operated by Belgian resident and associated with your Birdee portfolios are liable to this tax.
